About Us

Dear Bayside STEAM and Virtual Academy Families,

My name is Mr. Kyle Griffith and it is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Bayside STEAM Academy and the SBUSD Virtual Academy. I am excited to join this extraordinary school community. Our incredible staff is committed to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a safe and world-class learning environment.

While this is my first time serving as principal, I arrive here with experience as both an elementary and middle school teacher, a Teacher on Special Assignment and as an Assistant Principal. In addition to my role as an educator, I am first and foremost a father and husband. I have two daughters. One is in eighth grade and the other isin fifth grade so I am walking in your shoes as a parent of school-age children. My wife is also an educator.  She teaches chemistry at Morse High School in San Diego Unified. 

The 2023-2024 school year will mark my 27th year in education. Since graduating from San Diego State University, I have served communities in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Diego counties. I am excited for this new role and the opportunities I will have to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and students on a daily basis. I firmly believe that every child can excel and that the partnership between home and school can have a positive impact on our entire school community. 

To maximize your child’s success, we respectfully ask that you support your child in the following areas:

1. Ensure your child arrives at school on time each day.
2. Read with your child daily. (This makes a huge difference in your child’s reading progress.)
3. Get involved with Bayside STEAM or Virtual Academy: Become a classroom volunteer, Join PTA, Attend Conferences, Volunteer for our SSC and more.
